Dedication to The Tuskegee Airmen

The Air Force Reserve 944th FW at Luke AFB, Arizona, celebrated it tenth anniversary in July 1997.  As part of the celebration, a new squadron building for the 944th's flying unit, the 302d traces its roots to the 302d Pursuit Squadron, one of the four squadrons of the famous 332d Fighter Group formed with African American pilots who trained at the Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama.  Col. Haywood (3rd from the left) of the Fred Archer Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. along with several formers of the Tuskegee Airmen attended the dedication of the building.

General Newton (2d from the left) visited with members of the Fred Archer Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. at the Pima Air Museum.    Featured with General Newton are Lt. Maurice Pompey (left), Col. Vernon Haywood (3rd from the left), and CMsgt Bill Williams (right).  General Newton is the Commander of  the Air Training Command.
